“Once you’ve been chosen, you belong to them”

So yeah, Dark Skies, I need to confess the fact that this movie ruined me. I’m not even talking about kind of ruined me, I’m talking on the level of ruined me, ruined me. Like I almost jumped into the lap of the person sitting next me and probably lost about 10 years off my life. It’s no secret that I’m terrified of aliens. Most conundrums in my life I write off as, “fucking aliens”. I invite you into my brain: the postal service (fucking aliens), dudes wearing sandals with socks (fucking aliens), and most important, Cubs fans (fucking aliens). So I lead you to the moral of this story, Dark Skies…fucking aliens.

DarkSkies

With my phobia aside, Dark Skies is what I would consider an above average alien flick. When I set out to see this movie, I not only had to overcome my alien issue, I had to also overcome my Keri Russell phobia. Fucking Felicity. I will say that I do believe Scott Stewart did a pretty good job at directing and writing this film. I think the pace of everything works very well. I also appreciated the fact that it doesn’t waste a lot of time before it jumps into the good stuff, or that I didn’t feel the need to check my clock every 10 minutes out of boredom.

As you may have guessed, I’m not the biggest Keri Russell fan. I do admit though that she wasn’t half bad in this movie, and neither was the rest of the cast. I was particularly impressed though with how well the two kids performed. My biggest issue with this movie would have to be the CGI. At points it’s just annoying. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. Dark Skies is no Mars Attacks!, but really what is? If you want a movie that will hold your attention, make you jump, and that has a good twist, then this movie is for you. Fingers crossed they don’t try to turn it into a sequel though.

THE GREY

A friend of mine recently suggested a breakfast smoothie concoction. Me being me, I couldn’t just leave it as is. I had to bedazzle it up a bit to my liking. I have a problem that many Americans have. I love breakfast food, just not at breakfast. For decades we have been drilled with the fact that skipping breakfast is an awful idea. I found that smoothies are a great healthy way to get a good breakfast, a ton of awesome nutrients, all without rolling my eyes at the idea of consuming something before 11 AM.

*Some of you may be wondering what the hell Udo’s Oil is. I started incorporating Udo’s Oil into my diet about a year ago and have been shocked what it has done for my skin, hair, and energy levels. In addition to those two things it is also supposed to help with your heart and joints. I haven’t had any heart attacks as of lately so I’m going to go ahead and say they may at least half not be lying. Then again I’m only 27. Udo’s oil is completely natural and fresh. I usually find mine in the cooler section of Whole Foods Beauty/Vitamin area. If anyone wants any more info as to how else to incorporate this into your diet feel free to email me or comment below. Here is the companies website as well. It helps break down all that sciencey stuff a bit more than my brain can muster.

ATTACK OF THE LITTLE GREEN SMOOTHIE

I think by nature my eyes refuse to allow my mouth to drink anything that is neon green. I think as a child I saw Ghostbusters too much. Somehow I managed to close my eyes, hold my breath, and down some of this drink. To my surprise, my body didn’t automatically reject it in a projectile fashion. To even one up that, I actually really liked it, and not in a red-headed step child kind of way.

Side Note: Both of these smoothies have a semi sweet flavor. I would say it is about a step above a subtle sweet taste as I don’t really care for overly sweet foods. If you want to alter the recipe to make it more sweet I would recommend adding more pineapple to your liking, or sweetening even further with some natural agave. Also, I find that people are sometimes thrown off with the use of avocados in smoothies. These smoothies do not taste like avocado. Avocado is a great base for a smoothie because it slightly thickens it up a little bit, not to mention, Avocados are one of those super foods that just does amazing things for your body. Feel free to get creative and mix up your own concoctions using these recipes as guidelines. I have a fresh mango in my fridge right now I can’t wait to cut up and make into a smoothie, and as usual, don’t forget my one rule to live by: Fucking Aliens.
